Appraiser I or II

P/T positions are hourly, without benefits and between 24 – 28 hours a week

Accomack County is currently recruiting for full-time or part time Appraisers.  The position is responsible for identifying, locating, evaluating, and appraising real property in the County for taxation purposes. The technical appraisal work performed by the position requires the ability to interpret, utilize, and correlate a wide variety of data and information. Duties include extended periods of time outside the office visiting and inspecting properties under varying weather and temperature conditions to collect, evaluate, and record property data.  Duties also include extended periods of time in the office inputting property data; reviewing and analyzing sales and assessment data; discussing and explaining assessments and changes in value with property owners; and, assisting the public. Applicants must possess good verbal and written communication skills and have a strong background in mathematics including the ability to interpret and perform statistical calculations; be proficient and knowledgeable in the use of computer systems; and be experienced interacting with the general public.

Minimum qualifications are: An aptitude for basic math skills and spatial computations is a must. Associate’s degree in a related field; 1 -3 years’ experience that includes real estate, market analysis, or real estate law; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  Preferred qualifications include: Associate’s degree or higher in business, more than 4 years’ experience. Ability to use mobile devices and Microsoft proficiency are also helpful.
