- Switch to an income-driven repayment plan to extend payments. Standard plans may not have a remaining balance after 120 payments
- Consolidate your loan.
- Have your employer complete the certification annually or every time you leave a public sector job, this includes any previous employers if they fall under the guidelines needed. The Employment Certification for Public Loan Forgiveness must be completed annually.
**To benefit from the Public Service Loan Forgiveness, repayment plans should be under an income-driven repayment plan. This will extend payments for 20-25 years and leave a remaining balance after 120 payments. Otherwise, the loan may be already paid off within the 120 payments.**
