Downloading GIS Data
It is the intent of Accomack County to make Geographic Information System maps and data available as a public information service.
Mapping services are available through the County’s AccoMap web site, which has free as well as subscription level access. Through the site the public is able, without charge, to look up information on parcels, addresses, communities. Many additional types of information are available through the site such as aerial imagery, zoning, election districts and precincts, location of schools and other public services. The public is able to generate, markup print, and save their own maps showing a variety information.
Accomack County makes a variety of GIS data it creates and maintains available for download through the County’s GIS Open Data Portal. Data is provided in ESRI shapefile format for use in third party software not provided by Accomack County. Information is available for the following:
-
Base Information (roads, addresses, parcel boundaries)
-
Zoning (base zoning districts, overlay zoning, future land use designation, Agricultural and Forestal Districts)
-
Voter Information (election districts, precincts, polling locations)
-
County Facility Information (solid waste disposal facilities, boating public access sites)
-
Other Information (fire and ems service areas and stations, enterprise zones, etc.)
Information on parcels, roads, and addresses are updated monthly. All other data is updated on an as needed basis.
It is intended that the shapefiles available for download be the most current data. However, any data which is provided by third party sources and is viewed on AccoMap will not be made available for download from the County’s GIS data download site. In these cases, every effort will be made to provide information where that information may be accessed from the original source of the data. Examples of such data are soils data from USDA or the National Wetlands Inventory from the USFWS.
The parcel shapefile includes only the parcel boundary and parcel identification information. Those needing to query additional attributes beyond the parcel shapefile will need to do so via either the free or subscription versions of AccoMap.
Those seeking GIS data not available via either AccoMap or download may submit a request to the County to planning@co.accomack.va.us or by calling 757.787.5797. Said request may be routed or responded to by the Department of Building, Planning and Economic Development, the Department of Real Estate Assessment, or the FOIA Office for proper consideration.
