Accomack County is a perfect mix of rural and business community. It is a unique and pleasurable place that we call home. While the back roads take you into rural settings, Rt. 13 is the major artery that joins the north – south route between New Jersey and Florida by way of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. In fact, MapQuest recommends Rt. 13 as an alternative to I-95.
A mixture of industries dot the area, including two poultry plants (Tyson and Perdue) and retail stores, such as Wal-Mart and Food Lion. Government installations include the Northrop Grumman, Orbital Sciences Corp, Navy, NOAA, NASA and numerous support suppliers. The Robert S. Bloxom Shore Agricultural Complex, which adjoins the Accomack Industrial Park, is giving new life to the seafood industry and the development of aquaculture. Accomack County offers one of the lowest tax bases in Virginia.
Summer breezes off the Ocean and Bay offer relaxation, no matter whether you are sipping a glass of wine from one of our several vineyards or enjoying fishing. Recreational possibilities are endless here. Boating, biking, camping, golfing, festivals, carnivals, arts, theatres, bird watching, and Chincoteague pony swims are just a few of the “to do” things in our county.
No matter whether you are looking to move, start or expand your business, you will find Accomack County has a lot to offer. A new state of the art hospital is located just five miles north.
The Wallops Research Park, adjacent to NASA Wallops Flight Facility, is within a short drive from any Eastern Shore town. This strategic aerospace site covering 202 acres has been dubbed "Virginia’s Proven Portal to Air and Space".
