Where can I purchase a dog license?
Dog tags may be purchased by mail, in the County Treasurer’s Office, or at one of rabies clinics put on by the Accomack County Health Department. Remember you must provide a copy of a current vaccination certificate to receive a dog tag. The Treasurer’s mailing address is:

Why do I need a dog license?
According to state code section 3.2-65, all dogs older than 4 months of age are required to have a current rabies vaccination and their owner is required to purchase an annual dog license from the locality in which they live. The General Assembly made this decision to help prevent the spread of rabies in Virginia.

What happens once my dog receives a vaccination?
Whenever a vaccination occurs, the veterinarian is required to submit that documentation to your local Treasurer’s Office.

What if my dog’s rabies certificate is expired?
If your rabies certificate is expired, you will not have the option to purchase a renewal license for your dog. Please vaccinate your dog as soon as possible and then contact the Treasurer’s Office for assistance.
