Accomack County acknowledges that employees are more productive when a work-life balance is achieved that enables employees to meet work and non-work related responsibilities. Life can be complex and employees have diverse lifestyles, hobbies, religious and cultural observances, relationships, and responsibilities outside of the workplace to manage. Work should not be an impediment in accomplishing personal goals, nor should life problems negatively hinder work performance. A healthy balance must be achieved.

In order to maintain a healthy work-life balance, it is necessary for employees and management to effectively communicate any needs for accommodation, change in life status, unexpected problems, or concerns to assist the employee.

Let your supervisor and the Human Resources department know if you need accommodation for the following:

  • Paternal Leave (including Adoption, Forstercare, and Maternity Leave).
  • Caregiver Leave
  • Civil Leave
  • Domestic & Personal Reasons
  • Family & Medical Leave
  • Flexible Working Hours
  • Military Leave
  • Physical Injury
  • Religious & Cultural Observation accommodation
  • Short-Term Disability

All situations and cases are unique and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Employees are still encouraged to contact their supervisor and Human Resources if they have a situation other than the reasons listed above.
