Open Burning Regulations for Accomack County burn-pile

It’s Illegal to Burn:
Tires and other rubber products
Wire, plastics and synthetic materials
Paints, household and agricultural materials

Permissible Open Burning:
Campfires
Yard debris and trash
Refuse from land clearing
Items permitted by the State

Open Burning Requirements:
Attended by competent adult
Notify 911 Center prior to burning at (757)787-0911
500 feet from off-site building
300 feet from exposed wood line
Winds are calm and away from developed areas & roads
Extinguishment source (water hose / fire extinguisher) or take preventative action such as a plowed ring around the pile
Burning February 15 – April 30 each year between 4:00 p.m. - midnight
You are responsible for all damages caused by open burning
