Second Round Grant Opportunity for Small Businesses
Small Businesses that are located in Accomack County that were deemed ineligible (unpaid/delinquent taxes, or business license was inactive) during the first round of Small Business Grant Applications have a chance to reapply for grants up to $4,000 or up to $2,750 (for closed home based businesses and restaurants with take-out and delivery). This also affords the opportunity for Small Business owners who missed the first round application deadline to apply.
TAXES MUST BE CURRENT AND BUSINESS LICENSES OBTAINED (if required) ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 22, 2020.
Small Businesses previously awarded a grant through the CARES Act from Accomack County, are not eligible for funding during this application cycle.
The County will continue using Executive Order 53 (directive #'s 3,4, & 6) and Executive Order 55 (directive #4) to determine whether a small business or home based business is eligible for grant funds. Excerpts from Orders 53 and 55 can be found here. Examples of small businesses temporarily closed by EO 53 and EO 55 include but are not limited to:
- Restaurants
- Restaurants that provided take-out/delivery are eligible for a reduced grant amount (up to $2,750)
- Theatres
- Hair Salons
- Indoor Public Amusement
- Campgrounds
- Home based businesses that were closed are eligible for a reduced grant amount (up to $2,750).
The County will open up on-line applications on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. and close the applications on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. Only one grant per business will be awarded. An on-line application form and submittal is REQUIRED to be considered.
Incorporated Towns participating in the County's Small Business Grant Initiative are:

If you are located in an Incorporated Town that is not listed, your application will be deemed ineligible.
Successful grant recipients will be notified by email and be required to submit a W-9 form. Successful grant award recipients applicant name and business name will be listed on this website. Check this website for details regarding grant notifications.

- Business was open to the public and actively doing business on March 24, 2020, and is currently doing business.
- County or Town business license is currently active as of September 22, 2020.
- To apply/re-apply for a County Business License please CLICK HERE, and follow the instructions.
- County taxes are current and have been paid as of September 22, 2020.
- To pay or verify payment of your County Taxes please call the Treasurer's Office at 757-787-5738.
- Must fully complete and submit an on-line application.
- Business must be in good standing with Accomack County.

- Applications will be reviewed by the County, and the County in its sole discretion will make grant awards after review.
- Applications will be received through a 3rd party website, Survey Monkey. Links will be uploaded to this website making the on-line applications active.

- You will need to indicate if your business received or was approved for any EIDL (Economic Injury Disaster Loan) or PPP (Paycheck Protection Program) funds. These funds were made available by the Small Business Administration as a result of COVID-19 earlier this year.
- You will need to certify that the information provided on the application is accurate and truthful.

Updated and New Information on Small Business Grants
If you applied but did not receive an email on July 17th from the County, your application was deemed ineligible. Reasons for ineligibility include:
- Business location in an Incorporated Town that is not participating in the County's Small Business grant initiative.
- Business was not required to close by Executive Order 53 (directive #'s 3,4,&6) and Executive Order 55 (directive # 4).
- Business License was not active on March 24, 2020.
- Unpaid taxes in 2019 or delinquent taxes.
The application period for Accomack County's Small Business grants is now closed. 81 applications were received online while the application period was open.
The County has completed its review of the applications and will be notifying successful grant recipients by email on July 17th. Grant recipients will need to fill out and return a W-9 form and agree to have applicant/business name listed on the Small Business grant webpage in order to receive payment.
The County will post successful grant recipients on this website once W-9's are returned. Check back here next week for updates.
