Overview
Accomack County employees have the right to a safe, secure, and violence-free work environment. Accomack County recognizes this right and acknowledges that nothing is more important than the safety and security of its employees.
The County is committed to providing a workplace that is free from violence. Threats, threatening/intimidating behavior or acts of violence against employees while on county property including threats through electronic means will not be tolerated. Violations of this policy will lead to disciplinary action, possible dismissal, and criminal prosecution as appropriate.

A safe, secure, and healthy work environment is the responsibility of all employees. Management and employees should be committed to workplace safety, and to taking initiative to identify and correct unsafe work conditions and practices. All employees are expected to obey safety rules, regulations and practices. All employees are also expected to report unsafe working conditions, unsafe practices, or unsafe/violent behaviors. CodeRED Emergency Notification Services
The County of Accomack uses CodeRED emergency notification services to alert the community in the event of a pending weather event, natural disaster or even a small event that could have an impact on all or part of the citizens.
The CodeRED system serves as the foundation of emergency planning and communications outreach to both citizens and County personnel by using the system’s capabilities to send telephone calls, text messages, emails to those numbers in the affected area. Messages can include information on life safety, evacuation and emergency related notifications.
The County of Accomack has been provided an initial database of residential and business telephone numbers. However, all residents living within Accomack County are encouraged to enroll additional contact information including cell phone numbers, text and email addresses.

Emergency Management
Emergency Management is an action plan in a continuous cycle of Preparedness→ Mitigation→ Response→ Recovery in preparation/response to an emergency. Accomack County has a role in coordinating, training, planning and exercising roles in response to an emergency or disaster including evacuation plans, mitigation plans, shelters, etc. Emergency preparedness is essential and must be a group effort, to learn more visit Accomack County’s Emergency Management page here.
Flood Protection
Accomack County is a participating community in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) which protects your home, your business, and its contents. Flood insurance can be a good thing to have as most homeowner’s insurance policies do not cover losses due to flooding. Learn more about Flood Protection here.
Safety Program
The County Safety Program (Section 306.0) is intended to promote a safe and healthy work environment, reduce the incidence of work-related injuries and exposure to worker’s compensation liability, and to ensure the compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations. Reporting a Concern
All acts of violence, harassment, and/or unsafe work conditions must be reported immediately to your supervisor and the Human Resources Director. If one of these individuals is the harasser, the employee may report to the non-involved individual.
