Accomack County
Home MenuReal Time Data
Flooding in Accomack is primarily the result of coastal storm events. Storms such as hurricanes and northeasters produce higher water levels in areas by producing winds that drives the water towards the coast. Tide stations measure the change in water level along the coast and reviewing live data during a major storm can provide information on storm surge. Tide stations are found on both the Atlantic and Chesapeake coasts. New tide gauge stations were installed at Nassawadox Creek, Saxis and Chincoteague during 2015 and there may be less information on those stations available until there is sufficient tide data history to generate predictions with respect to tides.
